"a tale of two cities" is one of dickens's most important representative works.the novel profoundly exposed the society contradiction before the french revolution, intensely attacks the aristocratic social class is dissolute and cruel, and sincerely sympathizes with the depressed classes.

the novel also described many magnificent scenes like the revolt people attacked bastille and so on,which displayed people's great strength. the novel has portrayed many different people. doctor manette is honest and kind but suffers the persecution actually , lucie is beautiful and gentle ,charles is graceful and noble, lorry is upright and honest ,sydney is semblance of indifferent, innermost feelings of warm, unconventional but also selfless and lofty, miss pross is straightforward and loyal, evremonde brothers are cruel and sinister......the complex hatred is hard to solve, the cruel revenge has made more hatreds, loves rebirth in the hell edge, but take the life as the price. as an outstanding writer,in dickens's work, the language skill is essential.each kind of rhetoric technique, like the analogy, the exaggeration, the contrast, the humorous, and the taunt are handled skillfully, and the artistry of the work is also delivered the peak."a tale of two cities" has its difference with the general historical novel, its character and the main plot are all fictionalizes.

with the broad real background of the french revolution, the author take the fictional character doctor manette's experience as the main clue, interweaves the unjust charge, love and revenge three independences but also incident cross-correlation stories together, the plot is criss-crossed,and the clue is complex.the author use narrates, foreshadowing, upholstery and so many techniques, causes the structure integrity and strictness, the plot winding anxious and rich of theatrical nature,it displayed the remarkable artistic skill.the style "a tale of two cities" is solemnity and melancholy, fills indignantion, but lacks the humor of the early works.

today, i have read the book "little women" .the deepest feeling is it is simple to be happy!

happiness is kinship, friendship, health, labor and peace of mind. having it, people just feel normal.but when losting it, people perhaps will find that it can not be replaced by anything in the world! ordinary is great!

every night before going to sleep, i want to carry it to read, lying in the bed, holding it in my hand until falling asleep. the book is still next to me when i wake up the next moring.this is what i want. this is the first book i love so much to read, because i like to look into the past from the childhood, i can find my own shadow, my own growth process. in the book, i can forget the sadness as a child can put it all behind.

this book was written by the united states louisa·may·alcott. this book can be regarded as a family biography to read, but it is not about the adults struggle but the growth of the children, telling them how to become mature from a naive, from vulnerable to suffering, from urgent to patient, from self to others. the book is a lively splash everywhere, the young mans innocence, purity, courage and vision for the future. they are really impressive.

they four characters were completely different. meg was16, jo was15, beth was14 , amy was12.

meg was beautiful, attractive.and she envied dress.she did tuloring to help the family.

joe had a eautiful hair, and she was always running around in circles and had a strong personality.though she often maked things worse, had a bad temper and did something like a boy,she was sincere.she loved writing and she helped family by doing nursing.

beth, loved by most people, was very cute and shy.she was very quiet and never be angry. there was no wonder that we all call her "little baby." she liked to curl up in her own happy world.and only when she met people she trust in,she would be pulled out timid.se was very sympathetic to the dolls, and she treated them as small baby by helping them make up new clothes.at the same time, she loved playing the piano. she was very easy to satisfy.

amy, was the smallest among their four, looked like a young lady.she wanted o be an artist and become the worlds greatest master.

lawrence was 16 years old.he lost his parent when he was a little boy.he was brought up by his grandfather.not willing to lost his grandson,mr lawrence avoided him doing a lot of things he want to do.so he lived a sad and unhappy life with his grangfather and were not on good terms with each other before he knew those four girls.he had a lot of money, however,he did not show it off.he was very enthusiastic and he became a sunny boy.

mrs marchi was a wise mother.she allowed her children to experience through the joys and sorrows of life and hoped her children to experience their lives instead of copy the history of generation.she hoped her children would be beautiful, talented, kind, loved and respected by the people.she would encourage children.she loved their country.to their motherland ,she encouraged her husband to the war and never regreted it.she had been learning how to set an example to the children.

at first, every little girl had their share of vanity.however, after going through a lot, they gradually growed.they understand what is true happiness.each of them had their own castles in the air and their little aspirration.in their view, family was their place of growth and refuge.they would listen carefully to their mother, would use their skillful hands and clever brain to creat the beauty of life and would beautify their soul.

some people said, four sisters growing up was like a richest interesting educating poem.the author used normal language to show us the great humam family, friendship and love.in the eyes of four sisters, the happiest thing was they could live with those who they loved forever.indeed,in my opinion, this is also my greatest happiness.

they were very hard woking and they helped the home to support the family by doing various things.they were busy but they did not lack of the luster of life.once each of them had been lost, regreted, and puzzled, but anyway, they grew up.they were innocent and had no bad opinions.after experiencing a series of trials and life to death, they gradually said goodbye to their childish and became mature.they helped each other ,loved each other, and became a group of little women who could stir up the burdens of life.

their smile is in my mind, remembering me to be strong,to have a pure heart.they also tell us how to deal with family relationship.from them,i think i have to learn to be strong, learn how to be content and learn how to cherish what we have.do not undershand their valuable after we lose them.we should treat others sincerely and regard every parting as forever parting.just as the saying goes,do not cry for the past meteors,or you will miss the others.we should be careful to find others advantages.we should have hopes to the future and set our own goals and then strive to reach them.allow ourselves to be an independent, strong and motivated people.just be a real little woman!

it is known to the entire world that little women by louisa may alcott is one of the representatives of feminist works. this paper analyzes feminism embodied in josephine’s view on love in little women. in the introduction of the paper, i will talk about the background, literature review and my writing perspective. as for the body part, in chapter one i will analyze josephine’s character from many examples in the story; in chapter two i will give a comprehensive analysis of josephine’s view on love, which mainly covers the love choice she made and the reasons of the choice; in chapter three, i will analyze feminism reflected form josephine, including the aspiration for freedom, the desire for independence, and the worship of true love. in chapter four, i will discuss the enlightments and limitations of josephine’s feminism in modern times. at last in the conclusion, i will give a brief summary of this paper.

even if having the small flaws, little women is still an undoubtedly great work. it put eyes on women’s growth, fights and efforts to realize the value of life in a patriarchal society. even in today, it still has realistic values for modern girls to learn.

through the daily lives of march sisters, louisa drew a vivid picture of the life of temporal american pioneers, especially jo. she impressed us by her goodness, honesty, insistence…and her precipitancy, rebellion… she’s like a close friend to us, and as well an inner spirit of us.

in order to get closer to this work, i’ve talked about the social background at that time, louisa’s family history, literature review and the definition of feminism; and then to figure out the reasons of jo’s choice, i’ve analyzed jo’s personality, the process of jo’s choice and the reasons of it, so i not only had a clearer impression of jo, but also got a deeper understanding of her choice; at last in order to learn the feminist spirits from jo, i discussed some extraordinary feminist qualities of jo and got some constructive tips and suggestions about feminism for all the girls.

after finishing this work which is definitely a masterpiece in history, i’ve learned the importance of freedom, both physically and spiritually, without it, i think i even can’t live well; and also i’ve known the value of independence, there’s no one can accompany and help me forever, so being independent can make me live better and feed myself just on my own; last but not the least, i’ve also been reminded with the preciousness of true love which makes people truly happy from the bottom from the hearts.

reading little women can be an enjoyable thing, to seek the peace in the blatant, and to seek an aim in the hesitation. we can learn so much from this book. over a century passing by, the glory of this book doesn’t vanish, instead it becomes more excellent, and it connects people generation by generation.

this past december, i read charles dickens a christmas carol for the first time. of course, i have seen the story done on stage a number of times (mostly as a child), and the various movies are a yearly christmas tradition. (my favorite is albert finneys portrayal in the early 1970s british musical version "scrooge.") but despite being very familiar with the story itself through stage and film, and despite having bought a copy of the book some years back, i had never taken the time to sit down and read the story.

so, having bought a new edition of the book after christmas last year, i finally sat down in december and began the original story.

it was absolutely sublime!

as much as i love the film and stage adaptations of the story, the book was just wonderful. so full of color and imagination and description - you could fairly feel the 19th century london cold, the piles of apples and oranges on the street carts, the hawkers calling out to passers-by bundled head-to-toe in woolen coats and boots.

this really is the quintessential victorian christmas story. i suppose im only about 170 years late in determining that, but now that i have read the story, i can see why it was such an instantaneous hit with readers. it was so successful during his lifetime, in fact, that dickens began a tradition of writing christmas stories every year. the edition of a christmas carol that i purchased last year has two other dickens christmas stories in it as well, although i have not yet dived into those two.

so i highly recommend this book. if you have seen any or most of the various scrooge movies that have been made over the years, much of the book will be familiar, but there are a few scenes here and there that i have never seen re-enacted in a play or a movie, including a trip out to a mining colony on the coast of england, and a hovering ride over the english channel to view christmas on a navy ship.

even after all these years of watching movies and plays based upon this story, i was still moved, emotionally, while reading this book, particularly during the scenes with the cratchit family. and at the end, i almost felt a tear well up when scrooge showed up on his nephews doorstep for christmas lunch.

to end, let me quote one of the more poignant passages from the book. the ghost of christmas present has just reminded scrooge of his harsh words about how if the poor are going to die "then they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population." the ghost quoted the same phrase after scrooge expressed concern about whether or not tiny tim would die. the ghost goes on to say the following:

"man," said the ghost, "if man you be in heart, not adamant, forbear that wicked cant until you have discovered what the surplus is, and where it is. will you decide what men shall live, what men shall die? it may be, that in the sight of heaven, you are more worthless and less fit to live than millions like this poor mans child. oh god! to hear the insect on the leaf pronouncing on the too much life among his hungry brothers in the dust."

that last line, in particular, strikes a powerful chord. how relevent, 170 years downstream, and in another country, for the self-righteous protestations of the wealthy american!

during the summer vacation, i savored don quixote again.

the author of this book draws a caricature of the knight errant through themiserable experience of the mad don quixote. you see, it's the mill windmill, but he thinks it's a giant with three heads and six arms. so he urges the horsespear to rush away, but it's thrown to the ground and can't move. even so, whenthe servant sancho came to tell him again that it was not a giant but awindmill, he argued that it was the magician who turned the giant into awindmill. there are countless such actions, which are very funny and makereaders laugh again and again. the author combines the description of thecharacters of different social classes with the description of the socialreality, vividly reappears the domineering of the noble gentlemen and the upsand downs of the common people.

don quixote was a little squire who was fascinated by reading knights'novels all day. he imitated the ancient knights and went out to adventure anddid many ridiculous things. although he is crazy, he hates tyranny and crueltyand opposes oppression. you see, once, his horse was injured by a group ofporters. regardless of the other side's more than 20 people, he resolutelyfought with the other side and was finally knocked down to the ground. if i seemore than 20 men holding sticks, i'm sure i'm not brave enough to go out. i'lleither admit my misfortune or run away. and don quixote, knowing that the enemyis strong and we are weak, is still fighting for justice in the end. this spiritis really worth learning. don quixote is also very charitable, sympathizing withthe weak and upholding justice. once, he caught a wronged prisoner. in order tolet him go, he reconciled and beat him once, although at last many prisoners ranaway.

don quixote is a complex and contradictory man. he has some other badhabits. he thinks he's right and doesn't listen to others' advice. sangqiuadvised him not to cut down the windmill, but he didn't listen. at last, he waslifted up by the windmill and hurt. he was nervous again. when he saw a mancoming to him, he thought that the other side was going to fight him, so hekilled the other side with a knife.

the first time i read "don quixote", i wanted to laugh, and did ridiculousthings for don quixote. the second time i read it, i wanted to cry, for thedomineering of aristocratic gentlemen and the ups and downs of ordinary people.the third time will naturally think from these cries and smiles. so, what do youread from it? let's talk about it together!
